Volunteering at the local Arts Council
Friday, August 12th, 2011
I’ve begun volunteering with the Yuba-Sutter Regional Arts Council in Marysville, CA as an Art Gallery Administrator/Docent. I understand “administrator” and “docent” are not interchangeable, but those are the titles I’ve been using when meeting new people. I’ve been very busy with my volunteer position, and I’ve devoted roughly eighteen hours a week to the arts council. It feels good to be back inside of a non-profit organization that is promoting the arts and culture, and honestly, I feel like I am giving back to the community. I’m also garnering a lot of experience, and I’ve developed a very good relationship with Kathleen, the executive director.
I would say the task I enjoy most at the moment is designing graphics and flyers for programming. Sometimes I don’t know why I didn’t become a Graphic Design major in school. But no regrets here, I promise! Another potential endeavor: selling artwork through Etsy. I’m hesitant to do it, but I keep mulling it around in my head, and it seems like a good idea if only to increase my income and ego.
All-in-all, a LOT of stuff happening over the last few months, and a steady promise of more things to come.

Good work!
Still waiting on that ‘more to come!’
Hope you’re well, Marika!
